The writers
Voices
Five people in five cities, each with a different reason to stop in the middle of the pavement.

Mara Ionescu
Mara writes from Bucharest about participation: workshops in parks, neighbourhood cultural centres, markets and libraries, and the slow practical work of making art with residents rather than for them.

Florian Haslinger
Florian trained as a landscape architect in Vienna and still measures every square by where people choose to sit. He covers architecture and public space: housing courtyards, streets, benches, bridges and the planning decisions behind them.

Daphne Kourou
Daphne lives in Athens and follows the culture that happens outside institutions: theatre in odd rooms, carnivals, biennials, protest art and the arguments cities have about their walls.

Luka Marić
Luka is based in Zagreb and writes about public art in all its forms: murals, monuments, memorial parks and the sculptures nobody remembers commissioning. He has a soft spot for Yugoslav modernism and for conservators.

Katrin Dahlmann
Katrin writes from Essen about festivals, night culture and travel, with a recorder in her bag for the sound of places. The Ruhr taught her that a coal mine can become a stage and that every city sounds different after dark.
